Polin Sans: A Multiscript Typeface Journey

For years, I've delved into the idea of a type family that blends the modernist allure of Władysław Strzemiński's "a.r." with the diverse, multiscript tapestry of pre-war Warsaw. The inception of Polin Sans was not just a creative endeavor but a homage to a vibrant past. Exploring geometric iterations of the Cyrillic alphabet, I found inspiration in "Towards an open layout: A letter to Volodya Yefimov." The revelation that circular forms, inherent in the Bulgarian Cyrillic, seamlessly integrate into the classical version was intriguing.

My fascination grew deeper while immersed in typoteka.pl, encountering the Hebrew elegance of Jaffa, by Idźkowski & Sk-a. Its echoes of "a.r." in Hebrew script sparked collaboration with Ben Nathan from Israel, enriching the project with his native touch. This multiscript narrative expanded to include Greek and Vietnamese, shaping Polin Sans into a historical odyssey through the veins of Polish modernism.

Polin Sans isn't just a typeface; it's a testament to cultural convergence. Designed by Mateusz Machalski and Ben Nathan, with the invaluable support of Michał Gorczyca and Małgorzata Bartosik, it stands as a harmonious blend of diverse backgrounds, echoing the spirit of a bygone era.
